Formula 1 – 2015/2016

Motor: ROAR-Legal 21.5 stock motor with ROAR approved rotors only (FN1).
ESC: ROAR-Legal ESC set on non-boost (FN2).
Tires: Rubber only, F1 scale. Must be available to the general public (FN3).
Body: F1 scale, molded front/rear wing (FN4).
Drive: 2-wheel rear drive cars only
Width: 190mm max

Battery: 2S LiPo or 6-Cell NiMh, long or short packs

(FN1) Brushless Motor Rules
UF1 has adopted the ROAR motor rules for its racing program. In UF1, all participants must use ROAR legal and approved 21.5 brushless motors.

Tuning Rotors
Tuning rotors are legal in UF1 racing, but the rotors must be ROAR legal Stock/Spec tuning rotors approved for the motor for which it was designed. The rotor can’t exceed the maximum length, diameter and magnet thickness designated for Stock/Spec racing under ROAR rules. Tuning rotors may not exceed 12.5mm in diameter. The length of the magnet may not exceed 25mm. Some or most motor manufactures offer tuning rotors that have shorter magnets than 25mm and have smaller diameter magnets closer to 12.3mm. These types of smaller rotors are legal. They are often used to de-tune the motor for certain conditions and grip levels. Most motors come with the maximum diameter rotor and length magnet already.

(FN2) Brushless ESC Rules
UF1 has adopted the ROAR ESC rules for its racing program. In UF1, all participants must use ROAR legal and approved brushless ESCs.

(FN3) Tires/Wheels
Formula One R/C racing features multiple tire suppliers. Any commercially available (in the US), F1-specific tire may be used in the UF1 Series. Any custom/hand-made tires are not allowed within the UF1 Series. Wheels must be F1 specific, spoked wheels. No additional aerodynamic dish inserts may be used other than the ones supplied with the body kit. Any tire inserts can be used.

(FN4) Bodies
The UF1 Series allows any post-2000 (year) Lexan Formula 1 body to be used for racing as long as it is mass-produced and readily available to buy at any retailer. All panels must be painted, which includes side pods (if added separately). Barge boards and airboxes must also be attached and painted. Hard plastic parts like mirrors, side pylons or nose-mounted cameras are encourages but not mandatory.

Front Wing
Any mass-produced front wing may be used. It must be the original hard plastic front Tamiya-type wing; no polycarbonate/Lexan wings allowed.

Rear Wing
Any Tamiya-style, hard plastic rear wing may be used. While the center plates and mounting section must remain stock, the side dams can be replaced with Lexan or carbon fiber. The shape can be customized but must retain the original leading and trailing design (leading edge must not extend past the leading edge of the center plate; trailing edge must not extend more than 22mm past the trailing edge of the center plates). The rear wing cannot be higher than the top of the air box. Diffusers are allowed but cannot be higher than the rear axle or protrude past the side dams of the rear wings’ trailing edge.

Body must be completely intact as it was intended by the manufacturer. It cannot be ‘extra’ trimmed along the bottom or cut in a way to be lowered on the chassis. The air intakes may be cut out (in the airbox and side pods) but not bigger than the original scribe marks in the body. A driver’s helmet must be used.

(FN5) Battery Voltage
Due to safety reasons, all LiPo batteries cannot exceed a max peak voltage of 8.44v. Spot checks will be done if there is any indication that someone is blasting their batteries. Charging bags are recommended but not mandatory.

(FN6) Suspension Systems
Front and rear independent suspension systems are allowed in the UF1 Series as long as the car meets the rest of the UF1 rules. All front suspension mount points must be located entirely within the body shell (no pan-car front suspension systems). Adjustable link front ends are OK as long as the inner mount point is located within the body. Custom ‘flared’ bodies are not legal.

(FN7) Driving Aids
No electronic driving aids (gyros, wheel speed sensors, etc.). Transmitter functions are allowed.
Anything not explicitly described in the rules, or not in the UF1 Sporting Guidelines, may be deemed illegal at the discretion of the UF1 Committee.

Team Car Livery* (Only required if Teams are active)
UF1 Rules - Team Car Livery
Each formed team consists of two drivers. Each driver can field any chassis they choose as long as it meets the rules. Each team must run their two cars with essentially the same race livery throughout the season and must seek prior approval for any major changes.

3-Minute Qualifying*
UF1 Rules - Qualifying
A 3-minute qualifying format is used and scored using a 5-fastest average lap seeding. The computer will average a driver’s 5-fastest laps to produce an average qualifying lap. The laps do not need to be consecutive. TQ for the event will earn an additional 2 points for the race day.

15-Minute Mains*
UF1 uses a 15-minutes Race Session with 3 Sessions per day.

Pit Stops*
UF1 Rules - Pit Stops and Pit Lane Procedures
There are a mandatory 2-pit stops per race. A driver can pull in for your pit any time after completing one full lap and before the 10-minute mark. After the 10-minute mark, pit lane will closed. This means the last 5 minutes are pure racing and makes it easier for the announcer to call traffic for the lead cars.

Pit-Lane Procedures
When pitted in the designated pit lane, a sticker will be placed on the front of the vehicle (location at the pit bosses discretion). The car will be held until the pit timer light goes out. It is up to the driver to make sure he safely re-enters the race. Failure to complete both pit stops during a race will accrue a 2-lap penalty off the results of that race.

Scoring
UF1 Rules - Scoring
UF1 uses a 100 – 0 points system in 1 point increments. For example:

1st – 100pts
2nd – 99pts
3rd – 98pts
4th – 97pts
5th – 96pts
etc.

Top Qualifier earns an additional 2 points for the race day.

Points are assessed to all the racers after each full race Session has concluded using the points table they’ve assessed. It is possible for a Group B or C driver to win the Session if his or her overall race time is faster than the racers in Group A.

Team Scoring (Only if Teams are active)
UF1 Rules - Team Scoring
All drivers in each Grand Prix score points towards both the driver’s and the constructor’s World Championships, according to the following scale:

1st – 100pts
2nd – 99pts
3rd – 98pts
4th – 97pts
5th – 96pts
etc.

For example, if in a given race, Lotus Team Driver 1 finishes second and Lotus teammate finishes fifth, then both drivers score 99 and 96 points respectively towards the Driver’s Championship, while Team Lotus score 195 points (99 plus 96) towards the Constructor’s Championship. Points are tallied up per Session for a driver’s maximum of 300 points total for the day (302 if one of the drivers sets TQ). Constructors can collect a maximum of 597 points total per day (300 if one team driver wins all 3 Sessions, 297 if the 2nd team driver finishes in 2nd place all 3 Sessions). TQ points do apply towards the Constructor’s Championship.

The Driver’s and Constructor’s Championship Titles are awarded to the driver and constructor who score the most points over the course of the UF1 season. In the case of a tie for a Championship place then the driver or constructor with the higher number of superior race results will be awarded the position. The throw-out rule does not affect the Constructor’s Championship points; all points for the season will be used.

Race Resort

“RC Scoring Pro” timing software automatically resorts racers after the first race Session, however it will still keep racers in the same running group. For example, if Driver “X” qualifies 6th in the B-Group and wins the B-Group first main, the resort will put him in grid position 1 in the B-Group for the next Session.

Throw Outs
UF1 allows affiliate locations to choose their throw-out system for their Series. It is recommended to allow driver’s a chance to win should they have a bad race, family emergency, etc. Tracking your progress throughout the season will be quicker and easier.

Minimum Speed Rule*
During the main events, all cars must be in working order and should not impede racing. If your car is not working correctly and you can’t maintain some kind of consistent pace, the race director may ask you to pull off and fix your car. If your car is not repairable in the pits you will need to retire from the session or main.

Race Start Procedure
UF1 Rules - Race Start Procedure
The grid is set in a single-file formation (unless track conditions require otherwise). Drivers are free to complete slow reconnaissance laps of the circuit before taking up their grid positions. Once on the grid, the race director will inform the drivers of the start of the race and, when the horn is sounded, it’s heads up racing from that point on. If a driver jumps the start, the grid will be reset for another try. If that driver jumps the start again, he will be moved to the back of the field. Races will be 15 minutes in length with 2 pit stops.

Anything not explicitly described in the rules, or not in the UF1 Sporting Guidelines, may be deemed illegal at the discretion of the UF1 Committee.
