Long time racer and good friend Thad Garner has joined the UF1 this year and shown that old guys can still drive. He is currently, after 2 races, sitting in P2 in the Driver’s Championship, but by only 1 point. He’s done well at the first 2 races, showing off his skills on both Cal;s warmer, high traction surface as well as The Lap Factory’s cold, lesser-grip situation.
Other than a few tuning parts, Thad’s Exotek F1 ULTRA is very much stock. He has added the damper tubes and anti-roll bar up front with only a spring change on the rear side shocks.
Another thing to note is the use of a custom-made mass damper under the steering bellcrank. This part is designed to settle the front of the car in bumpy situations, helping to keep the front tires firmly planted for a more consistent feel.
So far the top 2 cars in the Series are running the Mass Damper – guess we’ll have to wrangle one up and do a little test drive to see if it really is the next big thing in Formula 1!
