At the recent 2022/2023 UF1 Season Opener, we had a chance to cruise the pits and check things out. We saw a couple new products as well as some interesting adaptations finding their way to a few of the top cars. Let’s take a quick look at what could be coming down the pipe!
Exotek Red-Soft Tires
Exotek’s new Formula 1 tires have been already been a HUGE success in the UF1 Series. Almost everyone in both the F1 and F2 classes were running the yellow-band tires but, at the Season Opener, Mike brought out a limited supply of the new softer, red-band tires. These new tires are rated as 36X for the fronts and 33X for the rears. While it was a bit hot for the 33X rears, alot of drivers opted to run the 36X fronts with most reporting a massive difference in steering with no other changes to the car. In fact, Mr. Rydwell himself (owner of Exotek) put on an absolute clinic in all 3 mains using the 36X red-band fronts and 36X yellow-band rears. I’m sure he’ll be seeing HUGE sales in these when they finally drop!
Exotek’s Next F1 Body?
The next item spied in the pits was this new F1 body. The shape is similar to the original body with changes to the nose, air box and side pods, most notably the separate reverse-angle air inlets. These could potentially divert more air into the side pod for better cooling. No additional information is available just yet, but we’ll be sure to pass along anything we find out!
Mass Dampers
Mass Dampers are spring-loaded weights that reduce vibration over a rough surface, helping keep the tires planted on the track. Used mostly in Mini 4WD cars, mass dampers were experimented some time ago but soon abandoned due to lack of performance data. However, with the advent of these newer, more sophisticated cars, they may be making an appearance again. Two of the top 3 cars in the F1 class had experimental Mass Dampers attached to their cars and, after seeing their blistering performance, it’s hard to rule out that this was just a fluke. We’re going to be keeping an keen eye on this in the future – maybe even experimenting with this as well. Stay tuned…
