Race Recap: UF1 Series 2012 – Race 6 – Monaco GP

Post Race Analysis
Great turn out today for the Monaco race… 34 of us sweating our butts off looking for shade and I still had a great time… Even with a practice day we had a couple weeks ago I saw the same guys making last minute adjustments hoping to find that little bit… So can this Aaron dude be beaten ? This guy has dominated the 2 races he’s been in… It will be interesting to see what he has for Dave Beger at TQ…

Just like here at Monaco where the IRS cars dominated the podium, 3 of the 4,… TQ will be quite the opposite …So Tony Phalen did loose a couple of points today but still retains a 15 point lead from Dave Berger… He went with his FGX chassis but was seriously concerned about reliability and was considering going with the 104… He managed to resolve the issue by using a HPI F10 front knuckles and modifying the front end… Even though his plan was to run a conservative day he just couldn’t help himself once he got on the track and was pushing the car…

Dave Berger closed the lead on Tony by a couple points and also distanced himself from Charles in 3rd place by one point… wheeling around the highest scoring DD chassis for the day he continuously improved his time each race coming to within 2.9 seconds of scoring 44 laps in the final race…

Charles debuted the CAL13 today but could not manage to break into the A main… scoring 42 laps in the first two races but then re gearing the car dropping 4 teeth and loosing the sway bar he managed to gain 2 laps getting into the 44 range… Calvin Lee did an amazing job putting together a chassis that’s is so easy to drive and can easily handle more power…

Bill Martinez was consistent all day scoring 41 laps in all three races but came so close in the first two almost getting 42 in each… There was predictions of a close battle for 4th place with Clement but Bill kept the cooler head and came out on top…

Clement had a great first race scoring 42 points but things went down hill in the 2nd race where incidents involving Panda caused repeated warnings for both of them and loss of points… Clement was able to bounce back for the 3rd race collecting 42 points… The lost 3 points in the 2nd race would have put Clement tied with Bill for 4th place…

And tied with Clement is Mark G… Struggling all day with a recent surgery to his shoulder you could see him rest his arm during the pit stops… running 39 laps the first race and then picking it up to 41 each for the final two races… Marks car race pretty much trouble free all day…

Race Recap: UF1 Series 2012 – Race 6 – Monaco GP

And sitting in 6th place is Mike Kennedy bouncing back from a unfortunate ESC incident last round that cost him a significant amount of laps… today he was on fire and showing why he is the current UF1 Champion… First race 42 laps, 2nd race 43 laps, 3rd race 44 laps… nice…. very nice… Mike is only 5 points away from 4th place and with two rounds to go including arguably his best track finishing the season, I would say Mike should finish off the season in 4th place…. maybe even higher if the unexpected happens to the top 3…

Jeff Young sits in 7th place with 2010 UF1 champion Craig Hammon 2 points behind and catching up fast…Can Jeff hold him off ? Can Jeff handle the pressure ? Will Jeff step up his game ? These questions and more will be answered next month as the UF1 turns 🙂

Cuda loves this track… NOT… But he had to be pleased to not see any boards in sight… I love seeing Cuda at Monaco, because I know it’s not his favorite track, and I know it had to suck having lost so many points last round taking him out of contention… But he’s still here, and having a great time and that’s the whole point of the series…

In 9th spot is Doug who had some electrical problems but managed to get things rolling for race starts… One round his car sounded like a Star Wars Desert racer but managed to finish 2nd in his round… Doug is holding strong to a top 10 spot as well as maintaining Team Red-bull 1 in 3rd spot…finishing off 10th spot is Quincy just 10 points behind Doug…

Quincy actually gained 12 points on Doug today… Quincy came within .9 of a second to capturing and extra point and 1.6 seconds in race three.. It is a game of seconds…

Not much changed in the team standings except that Lotus closed the gap to Repsol Honda by 4 points… The gap now is 10 points… extremely close considering the score are 1284 to 1274… A more significant point shift was Team Elf Tyrrell gained 154 points on team Mercedes do to a no show… this puts them within 17 points of Mercedes… Current UF1 leader Tony Phalen was quoted as saying about Jacob Dee ” I’m amazed he drives so well at his age, if he keeps this up a few more years he will be competing at the top”

I want to thank Johnny for taking charge and putting his foot down to keep order… It’s not easy being “That” guy… I know I couldn’t do it… Whether we agree with his calls or not is irelivant… we need to accept it and move on or not show up… And Johnny’s comment about settling any issues at the track and not running home to your computer on RC tech struck a cord in me… Keep up the great work dude…
