Round 1 of the UF1 Formula 1 Class Qualifying is this weekend, July 7th at Cal Raceway.
We will be incorporating the qualifying with Cal Raceway’s normal race schedule, so come out and race – use that time to test and tune your car for the qualifying sessions! There will be 4 15-minute qualifying sessions throughout the day for drivers to try and hit 3-consecutive fast laps (lap times to be announced on Sunday).
Remember, this is qualifying for the Formula 1 class, which means everyone starts in the Formula 2 class (running 25.5T motors). Only current, qualified F1 drivers can run the 21.5T motor (see list of current F1 drivers here.)
Round 2 of the UF1 Formula 1 Class Qualifying will be held on Sunday, July 21st at TQ RC Racing. This will give drivers more skilled on carpet a chance to qualify for the Formula 1 class. Like the day at Cal, the 21st will have 4 15-minute qualifying sessions throughout the day to hit 3-consecutive laps (laps to be determined day of).
For both qualifying sessions, F2 drivers will need to run a 25.5T motor. However, it is open tire – run whatever tires you feel comfortable with.
Good luck to all the drivers!
NOTE: If you are already an F1 driver, you do NOT need to requalify – once an F1 driver, always an F1 driver! These sessions are for Formula 2 drivers trying to qualify for the Formula 1 class next season.
