Formula E Coming to the UF1 | UF1 RC

Formula E Coming to the UF1 | UF1 RC

Well everyone, it’s been awhile since I’ve had any news for the UF1 We’re all stuck at home looking at all of our RC cars collecting dust and there’s nothing we can do about it at the moment. I hear some of us have started virtual racing – iRacing, Forza or even Gran Turismo – it’s a good way to get your fix while we wait for all this COVID crap to pass.

I do have some news, though. With Tamiya announcing their upcoming TC-01 Formula E car, I’ve decided to add this ride to the UF1 Series. This will have its own class with its own ruleset, but being a 4WD chassis I’m hoping it will draw alot more people into our world and (hopefully) get them to buy a F1 car to compete in that part of the Series as well.

So, first off – rules. You can find the preliminary ruleset here: Formula E Rules. I say preliminary because I don’t have a car in front of me to do all the testing with yet. We’ll probably run the car in close-to-box-stock config, meaning no hop ups first season, just tuning stuff (like different oils in the shocks and fluids in the diffs). Let’s get the Series rolling before we start allowing all kinds of changes.

Second, the Formula E class will have its own Championship, obviously. We won’t have a Constructor’s Championship first season – again, I’d like to get the Series off and running and build that interest.

Third, there will only be one class to start – Formula E. IF it appears we need to break out a ‘F2’ Formula E class, we will. The goal here is to build the UF1, not crush the fun for those that race on a hobbyist level. But if that happens, we’ll worry about that during the following season.

Finally – and probably not a popular one – we may have to adjust the race lengths if we get a lot of these cars in attendance. We’ll play that by ear as the Season progresses.

Anyway, it’s going to be a fun time for sure. These new 4WD Formula E cars should be a blast to drive and, honestly, I can’t wait to see some of the realistic liveries that pop up (especially once we implement the Constructor’s Championship).
