UF1 F1-Class Qualifying – Part Deux

The date for the Formula 1 class qualifier has been set:

Date: August 27th
Place: Cal Raceway
Time: 3:00 – 9:30pm

Here’s how qualifying will work:

The 27th will be a practice day for everyone – TCs, USGTs, Minis – whoever wants to come out to play. At specific times during the day, we will close the track for 10-15 minutes for F1 only. At any time during this break, any driver wishing to qualify for the F1 class can enter the track and attempt to do so. The driver will need to notify either Ken Gerberding or myself (Tony Phalen) so we can monitor the computer for your lap time attempts.

NOTE: Since you are starting out as a F2 driver, you must follow the F2 rules prior to making an attempt at the F1 class (motors, tires, etc).

Your goal is to hit a select lap time 3 consecutive laps in a row (lap time will be announced prior to the first qualifying attempt). For example, if the qualifying lap time is a 12.5 second lap, you will need to hit AT LEAST a 12.5 second lap 3-laps in a row. A 12.4, 12.3 and 12.6 will NOT qualify as a valid attempt.

Once you’ve hit your F1 qualifying goal, you are done with qualifying. You can use the rest of the day for testing or can head on out.

Note that if you do qualify for the Formula 1 class, you can head over to the Permanent F1 Driver Numbers page and pick a permanent F1 number. Also check out the rules for the F1 class – they are a little bit different than those for the F2 class.

Due to a very busy month of September, this will be the one and ONLY F1 qualifier.

NOTE: If you are already an F1 driver, you do NOT need to requalify – once an F1 driver, always an F1 driver! These sessions are for Formula 2 drivers trying to qualify for the Formula 1 class next season.
